What are succulents?

Succulents are plants that are adapted to survive in arid environment. Due to this adaptation, succulents often have thick leaves that can store water, so they can withstand a period of drought. There are various ways for this group of plants to store water. Thus, the water necessary for the growth of the plant can also be stored in e.g. the stem, or the root. Another word for succulent is succulent. The name succulent comes from the Latin word suculentus, which means rich in juice.

Succulents are actually a very large group of plants that have in common that they are resistant to droughts. Cacti therefore also belong to the group of succulents.
